Default I Hate Case Prep

This month anyways. I bought my wife a .223 last month and she's been shooting it like there's an endless supply of ammo. Don't get me wrong, I'm bout tickled to death that she is out there shooting and shooting very well. It's just all the case prep that I have to do to keep her shooting .

I am showing her how to do all this work and she's really into it but she's not ready to do it all without my supervision yet. I've also been doing my own shooting, which I do year round and I put my own reloading on the back burner to work with her this month. Now I have a back log of four rifles of mine to load for, more case prep .

I know, give my head a shake , but have I mentioned how much I hate case prep. We're headed out this afternoon, as soon as she gets off work and that will mean 100 or more empty cases. In all honesty it sure puts a smile on my face to see her smile when she busts a clay at 250 yards.

I know guys who don't do any case prep, and still out shoot me by a mile. Maybe you don't need to do as much prep as you think.

I'm with you. 1 milli second of fun then several minutes on loading each round. It is a pain.

High volume .223 shooting = Winchester white box ammo!

I bought a RCBS Case Prep Center and made a couple of modification after I saw a video on youtube and it has shaved off about 40% of my time...

I think this is the one: Video

Doo, thanks for posting that video.
That is one of the slickest ideas I have seen for the RCBS Case Prep Centers.

I need one of those Giraud trimmers..

Way less noise than the RCBS station..

I am getting this set up in a couple weeks..anyone interested..I will clean brass if it works well..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdvq3...ayer_embedded#!

Chamfering takes no time..just put the cases in those cartridge holders you get with factory ammo..flip it upside down..and 20 at a time in seconds..
I put my primer pocket cleaner/reamer, in a cordless drill and do them at the same time while their in the cartrige holders..

Like a pencil sharpener... you just hold the base of the case and push it in for a couple of seconds and it trims it to lenght and chamfers the inside and outside of the case mouth. I've done a few hundered rounds in under an hour with it. The same number of rounds would take me several hours with my power drill and lee trimmers and I'd be in pain at the end. I hated my RCBS trimmer so much that I sold it for $10 just to get rid of it.

Why not just buy a 1000 rounds of fmj every once in a while?
I just bought 1000 rounds of American Eagle 55gr FMJ from Fontier in Sask for $460 delivered to my door. When you consider how much time it takes to reload for all the different calibers in the collection I think the cost is well worth it when cheap factory ammo is available.
I still reload for my 223 but when your just out playing it's nice to use the cheap stuff and also get a bunch of fresh brass in the process.

Maybe consider buying her a nice 22lr as well to help with keeping her rifle fed and costs down. If she wants something that has more bang than a 22lr then maybe something in 7.62x39.

Great to hear your wife is enjoying shooting, makes range days alot easier when you don't have someone asking how much longer you will be every 15min.
