Default 45/70 or 300 ultra mag

Which is more flatter shooting at 500 yards a 45/70 or 300 ultra mag. I thought I would post this figure there would be less fighting. Kidding I really enjoy 5 pages of the first question not being in any of the Discussions.

IMHO, you're trolling...

But to answer the question, which I'm sure you already know, is .300 RUM...

In the first 10 inches the trajectories are almost identical. After that, the 300UM is much flatter. I also believe this thread should be moved to the Guns and Ammo section.

I like a .22 short case necked up to .45 cal. It's in its wildcat stages now but should be good to go within the year. Gonna change long range shooting as we know it!

Really? considering the rucous in the other thread and that a serious contributing member has been suspended, you could leave it alone. This doesn't do much for credibility.

If it's anything like your .500 nitro casing necked down to .17 cal, it will be another success.

I would pass on both cartridges and step up to the .300Maknocents, which is just a 300 RUM necked down to the smaller 45 caliber bullet.

That is so cool LC, and so close to home. My youngest daughter Monique is known as "beaker" she is now 35 years old and has begged me to not call her "beaker" in public....my grandson Gage calls her aunty Beaker. I love it.

It doesn't always immediately, but over time and given patience, they actually weed themselves out. Case in point is edmhunter. He was headed for destruction from day one. This Supergrit fellow does not appear to have plausible input nor worthwhile discussion material. Seemingly just seems to have nothing but smart arse remarks or stuff to stir the pot with. I figure his outcome will be much as that of edmhunter's.

I'd be cookie monster, but cookies are only a 'some times' snack now

Speaking of new fangled wildcats, how about a .444 necked down to a .222. We could call it a triple-duece-twice

If you read the ballistics charts you'd know they're both extremely flat out to 500. If you're going any longer though, or considering a potential long range rig, I'd advise something in an 18" improved cylinder smoth bore, with no less than a 1oz slug, otherwise you won't have much energy left

45-70 actually defies gravity to the exact degree that it exhibits zero drop. It will actually fire straight into space, given the curvature of the earth. It's amazing.

now the .450 Marlin, it is effected by gravity JUST enough that it follows the curvature of the earth, hence is defined as a perfectly flat shooting round - it's like a laser beam.

But global warming is affecting the force of gravity now (so many scientist's heads are growing so much bigger, due to their bogus research, that they are now affecting gravity), so it will actually be not long that the .450 Marlin will exhibit some drop and be on par with the .300 RUM, while the 45-70 will be the quintessential "flat shooting" round.

Hope this helps....

Exactly. What I've found out too while shooting the 45/70 to 2400 yards. We'll said.

I personally find 2400 yards to be a little, well (no offense), close, for my liking. With the laser like ballistic profile and trajectory, I find it is pretty much a "point and click" operation out to about 8 or 9km (using my Nightforce 192x304mm scope, mounted, of course, on what are known as 'Uber-High' rings). After that distance, I begin to find that the Coriolis effect has a significant effect on the trajectory of the bullet.

I'm hoping that my latest wildcat, known as the .45-70 Bomassbiznatch, will actually actively counter the coriolis effect, through what I have dubbed 'the counter coriolis twist rate theorum'. It's a whole lot of sciency-speak gobbledy-gook (I'm sure the OP is more than capable of understanding it though, so he can PM me about this round if he likes), but the gist of it is, this bullet will fly straight for many km. The downside of it is, you need a different barrel for each direction you shoot in.
