Default Anyone got any varget and tips for a beginner reloader?

Hey all, I'm currently going thru life changes (divorce) and really need to keep myself and mind on something else to keep sane, so I have really gotten into reloading as my new hobby, and I got to say, I'm totally hooked

(Always wanted to but never had time, now I have way to much time )

I was just wondering if anyone in the edmonton area would be willing to sell me a 1lber of varget as I can't find any at any stores, or point me in the right direction

I want to develop a 223 fur friendly coyete load for my tikka varmint 1in8 twist

I was going to begin with a 53g vmax on some hornady brass I have prepped and ready to go, got everything I need except the powder

I don't know of a 53gr Vmax, but I know of 50 and 55. Anyhow, my recipe is 55gr Vmax and 25.0 or 25.5 gr of Varget (not at home to check for sure), but close. I was at Flys Etc. in High River a few days ago andI believe he has Varget.

note: if Varget isn't available, Benchmark and IMR4198 work superbly, although Benchmark may be a bit more temperature sensitive seeing that it's a spherical powder. Good luck.

Default I love the IMR stuff

Spherical powder is wonderful stuff, it meters better than any thing else out there.

The bullet you use for coyotes is far more important than the powder
I prefer the big hollow point varmint bullets like the
Speer TNT 50 grain
Lots of good powders out there H322 works super as does 4198
BLc2 , 4895, etch suggestion would be to find a powder that is recommended here by myself or the others - unless you already have the Varget

Here's a tip, use anything other than varget, that way you won't be struggling to find it all the time, if your rifle has an 8 twist I'd be running amax 75 grain bullets

Default Varget or ....

good tip on avoiding Varget.

Yes Varget works in many cartridges - so do many others.

Varget is widely well regarded because it is often recommended to new reloaders. The new reloaders go on to work up good loads. They are then predisposed to recommended Varget to others. And so on.

IMR4064 is a powder that will do most of what Varget will do. Study your reloading manuals.
