Default Alberta bill of rights may be revised

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...side-1.7291123

Premier Danielle Smith intends to strengthen the little-known Alberta Bill of Rights this fall to include protections for people who refuse to be vaccinated, but she's facing heavy pressure from United Conservative activists to go much farther in her overhaul, CBC News has learned.

A group from the premier's riding in Medicine Hat, which calls itself the Black Hat Gang, has met with senior government officials and proposed a massive new draft of Alberta's rights document. The "gang" wants it to enshrine an array of new rights, including confidentiality of health information and "informed consent" to medical care, as well as rights to keep and bear firearms,

They should add in the right to protect yourself, others and property by use of lethal force.

The rub is firearms, and property rights sit with the Fed’s. The defined boundaries of such are pretty hard to circumvent.

Exactly - the province can mandate, proclaim, and argue until they are blue in the face about firearms laws, firearms rights, etc... but they do not have that jurisdiction.

It is solely at the discretion and under federal authority.

We need to elect a conservative government that is willing to undo what the Turd did ..... that's the only path. All the rest is just fairytales and wishful thinking ....

I know but a man can dream.
Maybe we need to start our own Federal government in Alberta.

Individual states can have their own gun laws. Why not Provinces. Marching to the Federal / Eastern drum on so many issues including gun laws makes proud Western Provinces look like weak puppets...and we are under their hammer. Time to man up and tell them to you know what.

Canada is not the USofA, and was founded with a different design(truth hurts) when confederation was achieved, the guiding principals which defined where the boundaries of responsibilities lied. In order to undo what was done would require the whole deal of confederation to be re negotiated. If you think we got a bums rush in 1867, wait till you see the hard railing the west gets in a do over. If this happens again expect the First Nations having their say, and the population centers like the GTA and Montreal and Hongcouver, will carry the sway based on their larger numbers.

The drive towards distinct society, or own nation status is looking better and better when you realize the possible other implications.

At a recent Town Hall meeting, I suggested she take advantage of the Not Withstanding clause, the answer was ambiguous.

The answer was ambiguous because your knowledge on the usage of the clause is most likely incorrect, and nobody wants to be seen as embarrassing you.

A quick google explains how the clause applies, and most instances where most people want it used is outside of the sections of the BoR that it could apply.

The one thing I like about Trump is this. The academics, the Hollywood big shots, the liberal ,I think I'm the smartest guy in the room, the global national cbc TV news uppity types, the University never worked a day in the real world protected by tenure experts, the end of discussion don't you dare bring it up types.
Trump says and does everything that in the 90s would have been political taboo to say or think.
Interesting times we live in. I love the Alberta Bill of Rights.
What would Trump do?
Maybe we get rid of Trudeaus federal force and replace it with our own police who enforce our laws and not Ottawas? Quebec and Indian reserves seem to do this . Why couldn't we?
It's not like we are trying to control Ontario and tell them how to live.
I believe in multiculturalism. Leave Alberta alone. We will live our way and Ontario, Quebec and Toronto can live whatever way they want.

I know a lot of people on a personal level that have had serious side effects from the shot. maybe you should limit the amount of time you spend watching the CBC.

As I pointed out, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia are already threatening to use it in passing their family values acts

might be easier for us to throw out the whole original design , and make our own , we are still a province much different from the others and apparently nothing more than a wallet for Canada "ontario and quebec" .

Guns are simply property. Property rights apply. The AB government can address property rights

This "black hat gang" looks to be a bunch of highly motived UPC members who are going above and beyond with their side project. I applaud them for that, they wrangled a meeting with a MLA to discuss their goals further. That in itself is fine and not unusual. I assume that the UCP will read their document, pretend to care deeply about it, give canned response about they love feedback, and then the will be the last of it.

Now reading about what some of what these black hat people are saying, these people don't come off as very smart. The line "Essentially what it means is the NDP wouldn't be able to cheat using voting machines," is gives away that there is a screw somewhat loose in this group. This is a small step above the "stop the steal" crap from south of the border. I get the UCP is in a predicament with basically having to include these groups as part of their base but at some point they are going to realize most Albertans don't want a bunch of weird hat wearing groups holding that much sway.

I spent several years trapped in a country that vocaly hated me, but would not let me leave. Banned from public places, and under threat of losing my job... litterally no minority group has been openly treated this poorly in my lifetime.

It was a damn tough job, but somebody had to do it.

I was just complaining about it yesterday because I was forced to so, so I didn’t lose my house.
Thanks for reminding me!

Some people just don't appreciate having their rights and freedoms violated, for political agendas, whether it's vaccinations, censorship, having personal property illegally seized, or having bank accounts seized.

These are some of the lunatics that Kenney said were taking over the asylum. The type who are going to push reasonable, moderate voters away from voting for the UCP. Bunch of clowns still crying about vaccines when folks are facing real problems such as: affordability of groceries and housing, high rates of unemployment in Calgary/Edmonton, extreme delays in healthcare delivery (esp in oncology), list goes on.

Default Those that were forced to

choose between their jobs or a deadly vaccine should be re-instated and paid for time lost. Sue the WHO.Health care workers ...nurses etc. The lives ruined by a dark political agenda. Stay tuned now that a new vaccine is available it's time to introduce monkey pox. You are the carbon they want to reduce.

It's not those people that caused the present situation, with inflation, affordability and unemployment, it's the socialists that are supporting the green/anti oil agendas, and the irresponsible spending on stupidity like electric buses, bike lanes, and the social justice nonsense that seems to take priority over the economy.

So to people that say the vaccine was goverment control and the ones that took it our sheep.

Are you against polio measles and other vaccines. Apparently some of these diseases are coming back because people are not taking them.

Goverment responded to a risk not knowing how bad it was going to be. When covid first came out it hit People hard and a lot died eventually it lost its strength and become less serious.
The next time this happens the virus may be way more deadlier and people will still refuse the vaccine.

There is a huge difference between being offered proven vaccines, as in polio, measles etc, and being forced to take vaccines that were not fully proven, and whose manufacturers misrepresented/ lied about them. And the fact that our government gave the vaccine companies full immunity from being sued, should be a huge red flag. It's not even about the vaccine itself, it's
about how the government mishandled the entire situation. And that was just a stepping stone to invoking the Emergencies Act, and freezing bank accounts. So what will they do next, now that they have already pushed Canadians this far?

You can bet that there will be another pandemic, whenever the government needs an excuse to exercise more control over the population. And with the new treaties, the WHO, UN etc will get more control over us.
