Default Something to keep shooting for

Made a trip to the range today, took 7 rifles, met up with Bushrat, and Outdoor Ed there.

My primary purpose for this trip was to figure out what rifle I might possably be taking for antelope this year.

I shot the 25'06, the 7mm-08, the 7x57, a nifty short tubed Rem. 740 Carbine with a Williams peep sight in 308, and my 30/30 only becuase it looked too left alone, so I felt sorry for it.
I also took the 308 Palma rifle with it's micrometer peep sights, and my Winchester Classic sporter II in 270WSM.

Wow what a time.
Everything but the 7x57 shot great, but the stand outs were the Palma rifle and the 270WSM.

Those are 348yd. groups from the bench, I just about had a cow when I went and took the targets down, I could'nt tell 2 from 3 shots with the WSM using the spotting scope, and my 6 MOA of elevation for the Palma rifle was almost too much, and of couse those holes in the writing were too hard to tell with the spotting scope.

Now to repeat this time and again, for the next 150yrs.....NOT.

But it certainly gives a guy an indication of where you want to be.

Those two rifles are keepers that's for sure.
With 1MOA and better at 348yds, how well do they do at 100 or 200?

Am curious to know how 'bad' the others performed for you. Were you getting at least 3 or 4 MOA equivalent?

Ya about that for the others that I did shoot to 348.
The 308 carbine, and the 30/30 were kept short, the 7x57 has a belly ache or something. The 7-08 is set up for shillouette, but it did about 3.5MOA with a couple weird ones, and the 25'06 was about 4moa, but light bullets on a gusty day, I'll not write it off yet.

great shooting, nice groups you should have no problem dropping an antelope.
Im not sure which rifle you will end up using personaly id go with the .308 . Also thats increadible from iron sights, people seem to forget you can reach out to those distances without a scope.

Very nice shootin! I'm impressed, I get groups like that at 100 yards. Looks like the shortmag might go antelope hunting?

Correction my bad: those two groups are more like .3 MOA at 348 yards, no? So both rifles probably cloverleaf at 100 on a good day.... Hmmm.

Take the danged thing anyway.
With the use of a range finder you should have no problem zeroing a lung shot with a 150 grain Pro Punter - gives a whole new meaning to the term
"turreting to zero"!!
