Unhappy sugar snow

Went to Long Lake,by Boyle,on Sunday. The lake was covered with sugar snow. We decided to take the quad to pull the utiilty trailer with our tents in it because the ice was about 12 inches thick by the shore and about 8 in. thick 40 ft out. Plus there was a soft spot south of the boat launch from a spring where the ice was only 4-6 in thick. We had to stay close to shore to avoid it. The sugar snow made it really hard to pull the trailer as it would give away under our tires and drop us to the ice where we would lose all our traction. I would recommend chains if you are planning on fishing there using a quad.
