Default Project Cooey

So I got a Cooey model 60 from a friend and I wanted to put a cheap .22 scope on it. It has no bases or anything. Also nothing drilled and taped. Are there specific bases that work better for a project like this. I'm not afraid to drill and tap it myself but unsure of depths and so forth. Any tips?

Default no offence but

If you don't know what you are doing %100 it's usually best to pay someone who does.I've seen some crooked holed abortions for sale at gun shows they couldn't give away.On a positive note i'd go with a Weaver side mount for 1" That's what I have on mine anyways.........Harold

To me this project is something to learn on. I'm not afraid to give it a go. Side mount wasn't something I'd thought of before. I'll keep that as an option

It would be unusual that a model 60 is not drilled and tapped for a side mount. It will be patterned for a Weaver No. 2 base.

Default drilling and tapping

Something to keep in mind is that on most of those old Cooeys the barrel is not perfectly square to the receiver. Even with a proper fixture ensuring holes are drilled perfectly square with the receiver you will still end up needing windage adjustable scope mounts. Learned this the first time I did one, spent a lot of time ensuring everything was perfect with the receiver, I neglected to notice the end of the barrel was pointed off to one side slightly due to crooked threads.
