Default Magneto Speed V3 chrono....

I swear i saw a thread on this unit but cant find it.

Anybody use one? Decent unit? Pros cons? Any flaws in its design? Easy to use? With starting reloading and switching all my scopes to CDS dial Leupolds, figured may as well get one.

I have the V2, and it works excellent, but truthfully, if I was buying again, I would go with the Garmin, the simplest set up, and it doesn't effect harmonics of the barrel.

There's decent prices on them now. One thing you always have to pay attention is the bayonet coming loose. Now I add electrical tape to help hold it on.

Like Elk said I'm sure accuracy is affected if you're working on velocity and accuracy at the same time.

Other than that, I find it works good.

Buy a Garmin. I’ve had shooting chrono, magnetospeed and LabRadar. None compare to the Garmin.

^This!

I’m in the same boat…owned the MagnetoSpeed (multiple versions) and the LabRadar (and all the issues that go with that).

Buy once…cry once….buy a Garmin!

Budget vs expectations…..

If a Garmin or a LabRadar are beyond your budget, yet the MagnetoSpeed is in your budget…… get what fits your budget.

Just realize the MagnetoSpeed will change your POI,
The other 2 don’t, so you can do load development and grouping all at once.
With the MagnetoSpeed I would find a good load, and simple install the bayonet and shoot at random gongs or the backstop to get velocity data.
I have since sold my MagnetoSpeed, and own a LabRadar, the Garmin came along and I’m sticking with the LabRadar for now, chasing the technology because it’s cool is a frustrating game…. I’ve learnt from that mistake in the past.
I’d sooner invest in components these days.

The magnetospeed V3 is a decent unit, it will do what is needed, but does have it's pesky drawbacks. I can understand not wanting to spend that kind of money on a Garmin, but, it shud probably only be a one time purchase. May want to wait a year to get a Garmin, sure there are some updates coming for it like maybe building a ballistic solver into it, probably be more money, but, maybe not a lot, applied ballistics charges say about 300.00 for theirs, Hornady is free, Garmin was talking to Hornady, so, I suspect there is a new version in the works, and Garmin has the tech available on hand, to do it already. I'd expect it'll be like their watch, and I'd bet the expandability was built into it already.

Just get the Garmin as others have already mentioned. I’ve had both and there’s no comparison.

I have one and I like it. I know it moves my poi but I don't care. I use it only after I have a confirmed accurate load. After that, I just check to see where I am at for speed. Speed is secondary.

The one thing that I don't care for is the tightener on mine. I can't get it tight enough so it won't move in my barrel. After a couple shots, I just move it back. No biggie

There really isn’t. It’s a game changer.

For the amount that I use my Labradar it is perfect, most of my velocity results I can get from our Shotmarker targets.
I tried a Magnetospeed once but it was with one of my BP rifles, and one shot was all it took to realize they don't work well with those.
If I was doing it all over again I would get a Garmin as well.

The V3 will accurately measure velocity, if the deal was that good , you can get your money back later, if you decide to upgrade at some point.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but has anyone used the Garmin to clock shotshells?
Wondering if it would pick up the load before the wad separates.
I've used the caldwell one with scattered results. No pun intended.

I’ve tried it with slugs. The gun was an 18.5” 590-Retrograde. It was interesting. I did the conversion from ounces to grains for the energy data (1 ounce equals 437.5 grains.)
