Reviving this old thread. On Wednesday I headed out moose hunting and on the way in I encountered a moose cow and a calf. No biggy, I watched for a while and they trotted off eventually. Then I carried on with the rest of my hunt. By the way the elk where screaming like crazy that evening. Too bad I didn’t have a tag for one. Fast forward to the walk out in the dark. I don’t like to use my headlamp until I absolutely need to and I could just make out the trail. When I got to the spot I encountered the cow and calf I heard the most ungodly growling noise and then the noise of a moose stepping away from me at probably 40 yards. Without hearing it before I knew what it was. Pretty confident it was the cow with her calf again. I heard the growl every 30 seconds as she slowly left. Wow! What a noise. Sounded like a lion or tiger snarling. Glad she did decide to whirl around and trample me in the dark. Fun stuff
