Ruffed Grouse North of Slave Lake
We spent the weekend hunting grouse about an hour north of slave lake. We thought numbers might be down with the wet spring. They were. We still managed a few birds though. One interesting find was that we shot three very small ruffed grouse. The tail feathers were only a few inches long. These looked like birds you might happen across in July or August. We were thinking these birds might have been from a second clutch if the first checks were lost from the wet/cold. Having shot hundreds of birds in this area, these were the first we've seen like this.
