One has to assume the bore is centered while turning the barrel as there is no other way to it . Profiling a barrel on a standard engine lathe is a pain in the butt!Even with a taper attachment .
I was at Benchmark barrels and watched them profile a barrel which has been set up with a special follower and it took them 8 minutes to profile a barrel .
Years ago I asked Douglas barrels what they did to the barrels they call premium and his response was they check for straightness. I asked him how they did that and he says they look thru them
