I ran into a guy who used the filter from his cigarette as a body for a boatman, and then wrapped it up very tight when he tied the body. He was using a weight forward fast sinking line, and would let it go down deep. He then started stripping with hard jerks and was just killing the fish with his experiment. The body core material had the boatman floating up, and the sinking line when yanked had the fly darting down and floating back up.
Very realistic and effective.
