The fact is that many of us have been installing scopes long before torque screwdrivers were common. Leupold data actually used to state that the length of the allen key was specifically chosen, because the average person couldn't easily overtighten the mount screws using only their bare fingers and the allen key provided. The screws are now torx head, but they still include the wrench with rings and bases . Now if you use a longer wrench, or a ratchet or even a screwdriver handle, you can put enough pressure on the screws to break them or damage a scope, but using the wrench supplied with the rings, you have to really try to overtighten them.
