Nothing wrong with using your 300 mag for sheep hunting,unless its very heavy .If your not planning on buying a super light mountain rifle I myself would just stick to the 300 . unless it weights around 12 lbs which is kind of heavy at the end of the day . I hunted sheep with my 7 mag stainless with the longer barrel . It was not the weight that got me but that longer barrel. To this day I still want to cut that barrel down .Its always getting hung up while ducking under a branch breaking threw the tree line .
