Quality ammo is the biggest consideration if you want to be competitive and shooting high end ammo can very quickly exceed the cost of the gun. Eley Tenex goes for $20 a box so 5000 rounds and you have paid for a Anschutz Target gun. There are very few factory guns that would be competitive in most types of competition for anywhere near the price.

I don't plan on shooting anything beyond what our local club offers, if it offers anything at all. Currently looking into it.
