If inexpensive is a priority, the first thing that comes to mind is NORINCO. Their 1911's are cheap, sturdy and functional, but a little rough. A BC gunsmith (www.armco-guns.com) has sold a ton of them by importing new ones, giving them a reliability tune-up and selling them. And if you want to cutomize at a later date, there's nothing better than a 1911. He also has lots of used stuff, of all makes, for sale. And anything you buy from him, will have been checked out to be good shape and work.
