I have/use both SS and coated rods for the past eighteen years ... probably averaged 3000+ rounds per year ... average round count between cleanings probably about 40. Average number of patch throughs per cleaning maybe 20 and sometimes the same number of passes with a nylon brush. I have no evidence that SS rods are detrimental as long as they are proper fit (do not flex to touch the bore), and are not permitted to “drop” on the exit point at the muzzle (too frequently). Like any tool, if used properly there should not be an issue. Regardless of the type of rod, it is important that the jag is also a proper fit to insure there is no shoulder to catch on the leade which could be problematic. That can be made a non issue by using a patch that envelopes the jag enough to keep everything centered.
