Another vote for the 30-06. I didn't want to pay so much for premium ammo in magnum calibers that it was deterring me from going to the range and practicing. I also found it hard to find ammo in stock for some calibers.

I sold my magnum rifle and have my 06 as an all around gun. My theory is that if the ammo is hard to find, or so expensive that it prevents you from practicing then don't buy that caliber. Being comfortable with your rifle and being able to practice shooting it is more important then the caliber of the rifle.
