I would like to join in this discussion.
I think a .30-06 is the do all. Just my opinion though. I find that from 100 ish to 200 ish grain bullets it is rather capable of almost anything as far as harvesting game goes.
Truth be told, as others here have mentioned, there are quite a few good calibres that meet the criteria. I have not had experience with them all though.
So for me, I personally would reach for the .30-06.
