Factory loads are available for the Whelen, they are not for the 338-06, this is a factor, if you plan to ever flip the rifle it is seen as a wildcat while the 35 is a standard cal, I see ammo daily. I have the Whelen and I thought about this decision for years, in the end if I wanted something fast and flat shooting, I have a 30-06 and a pair of 300 mags (RUM and Winchester) this is meant to be a hard hitting medium range calibre, the 35 does that exceptionally well JMO.
