Don't bother with all the slabbing and such unless you're doing it solely for looks. You"ll save less than they weight of the Talley's. Use the money on something more worth while. Buy time you're done you'll spend $600 on removing less that 2oz of metal.

Is the action and barrel trued? You're cartridge choice is great and a #2 22" with short shank barrel would be great on that setup.

I did a .284 in a Wildcat with 22" Apex barrel about #2 in profile a few years ago and with a spiral fluted bolt and talley's it weighed 5lbs 3oz.
