Last time we moved we used Big Steel Box (similar to PODS). It was great. You pay by the month, so we loaded stuff at our convenience, called them when it was ready to go, and they stored it in their yard until I called them for drop off at our new place. They dropped it off, we unloaded it when it was convenient, and called them to take it away.
I would 100% go with a Big Steel Box/PODS style system for any move in the future. They will haul it across the country for you as well. We were moving local, so that part wasn't much of a factor for us.
