Brian, I ride the same way as you, on one knee for the same reasons. But even then I have had it tip. Maybe I should clarify that I only weigh 160-pounds, which is most likely the reason it is a bit tippy for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not constantly tipping over, hardly the case; rather, on occasion, as I'm looking at what's going on around me as opposed to what's in front of me, I've ended up on my side.

As far as fuel consumption, I haven't much to compare it to. My line runs 65 kilometres and I'm pulling about 300 pounds behind me, so I'm probably burning more than most.
