They are not a toy - they are just miniature versions of a full compound
As you kids grows you will find you have to adjust the bow frequently for draw length (and weight) - save yourself some grief and upgrade the sight to something more adjustable than the stock sight.
Oldest son transitioned out of the Atomic directly into a BowTech for hunting.
I have heard good things about the PSE mini-burners as well, however I have no experience with them
