I always use them to determine the best trim length for my individual chambers.

IMHE, all of my factory chambers are very long, and my brass seldom requires trimming as most are too short.
CAUTION, YMMV
Brass that is too long for your individual chamber may result in the chamber end crimping the case mouth into the bullet and seriously elevated (
or dangerous) pressure.
