Trap Lines North by Stephen Meader, a classic trapping memoir written for boys, must have been in every school library in Canada. By far the majority of copies that I have seen are worn, and have library markings all over them.

I would have read it in the late 50s or early 60s in Victoria, B.C., like most any adventure minded boy of the time.

The story line has Jim Vanderbeck 18, take over the trap-line in Northern Ontario, when his father is laid up.

Even ratty x-library copies are expensive due to demand and scarcity.
