You can also use the 3-way with a 2-4oz weight on the bottom and either a spoon or a crank or a minnow off the side.

Might consider river mouths and shallower than the typical 90feet areas if the fish are starting to move around pre-spawn. I haven't been up there at that time, so I can't comment on their spawn timing.
