[Jack fish hunter]

So I live just off a creek in western Alberta that has tons a bunch of beavers in it. Been doing a bit of reading in the regulations and all I can find is that you can shoot them on private land without a license. So what do I need for licensing to shoot them on public land? Am I also able to trap them on public land? I'm assuming I'll need to take the trapping course to do any of this. But if I take the course and I can't do any of this I'm not going to bother. Any insight would be great. Thanks.
