From what I have read and understand it was not Marlin but UMC and the Domion Cartridge Company that started labeling the 30WCF as the 30/30.
This could have been fir numerous reasons, nit the least of which was the fact that people do not adjust well to new things and Smokeless powder at the time was not
That popular, so designating it like the old BP cartridges
(.30 , 30 grains of powder ) using smokeless instead of black would have eased some suspicious minds .
