I use 308 and am happy with it, but i doubt you would notice a difference between availability or price between those two calibers. 308 and 270 are pretty even. 270 zips barely lighter 130 to 150 gr bullets faster, and 308 has heavier 150 to 180 gr bullets slower. Both these have effectiveness from deer up to moose. Recoil and killing power are a match. Beyond 250 meters you have to know your holdovers on both.

Some guns like Military semi-autos are more common in 308 so if you only want one ammo type, 308 is a good choice, if that doesnt concern you, 270 is just as sweet.
