The 1911's for example are all called 1911 Colts but they may be made by Colt, or Rand , singer , Nirinco , the list goes on .

Colt may be making it but if is not a Colt design ,
As far license goes , it could be because of patent law , but I don't think that the people who know this for certain really care what a bunch of
