The more I think about this, the likelier it seems that Israel allowed this to happen (no way Mossad missed this in its planning stages).
The rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the clear and rapid decline in US influence worldwide has the Israelis panicked, and they want to take Gaza and hopefully bait the US into at least supporting if not leading an attack on Iran before they are out of runway.
