I've had the same experience. Have a monarch 3 3-12x42 on a 30-06 and have zero complaints. Gathers light well. Clear. Easy to adjust. Holds zero. It's just a solid feeling and solid built scope. Purchased it while on sale last year and had a chance to hunt with it.
Purchased it with the same intention of installing a different scope at some point down the road but have decided to keep it right where it is. For the money I think it's a fantastic value. I also love Leupold and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another of either the Nikon or Leupold.
So far it's been a great experience with the monarch. Hoping it stays that way.
