Last year I was watching a herd with a 5x5 in it. the 5 starting barking out of the blue in the opposite direction I was. I was 200 yards away. The cows didn't seem to care. From where he was barking came a really big 6X6. The 5 took off in a hurry. The bark sounded just like a other barks I have heard in the past.
Usually barking means somethings up and they sense danger and Sometimes elk do weird things.
