For coyotes(not sure if it would be strong enough for wolves) I use #14 wire (from UFA) spun together with an electric drill. Use the end loop to attach the snare, thus eliminating the whammy. Can be made any length, quite flexible for positioning/handling etc. Takes less than a minute to make on.
