Corruption in government, in my opinion, in Canada is becoming far too common place. In BC, it seems even if you are caught taking funds illegally from government grants in BC nothing ever seems to happen to the offenders.
I believe it was last year, the CEO for BC Housing, Shayne Ramsey quickly decided to retire. The housing corporation he was in charge of at the time was supposed to help poor people with respect to their housing needs. However, allegations came up of a conflict of interest with money going to a government agency in which his wife was in charge. They never could prove anything because meeting minutes were altered or missing, financial documents were missing, and millions of dollars spent without necessary approvals. The penalty to Mr. Ramsey and his wife.....nothing.
So you can see why white collar crime abounds in BC, do the crime, but you don't have to do the time.
