This exact thing happened to me with an old Banner quite a few years ago. Took me a while to figure out why I kept missing. At around 6x you could see the crosshairs jumping all over the place if you cranked the power up or down when looking through the scope. Also a change in direction when Turing the power ring would cause the crosshairs to jump or if you rapped it on the side.
Bottom line is that scope was dickered and I threw it in the garbage, you should probably do the same.
