I started with a .22 high standard Duramatic fun for the first few thousand rounds but I wanted more, I bought a S&W m-27.
I was already into handloading, brass was plentiful from the local police that were selling cheap 38 brass for charity. I started casting my own bullets from salvaged lead and 50/50 solder soon I was shooting big bullets for the same price as rimfire. Then came the 686 then the contender with .357, 30-30 barrels, Berretta 34 in .380 and many more after.

It all started with a .22
