SECU was having a discussion about crossborder smuggling guns, and gang intervention and prevention, etc. A mix of the previous gang discussions 4-5 yrs ago and current issues. Tracey posted a bunch of times about it today as she was there, this is the "summary" of the day in general;

Dear Minister,
I'm writing to you after watching the meeting today of the Standing Committee on Public Safety & National Security (SECU). There were a number of expert witnesses from various law enforcement agencies like the RCMP, CBSA and the National Police Federation. The consistent message was a lack of funding, causing a lack of capacity to combat the smuggling of illicit firearms in to Canada. Due to these shortcomings, the gang violence in Canada is fueled by massive numbers of guns in the wrong hands.
As a concerned Canadian, a taxpayer but most of all a parent, I hold you and your government responsible for the complete mismanagement of our tax dollars with your proposed confiscation program to pay licensed gun owners for their legal guns you have banned.
Those precious resources, and your focus, MUST be immediately rerouted to the reduction of illicit guns in the hands of violent criminals. This is how we will save lives.
