Well I rough cut my birch stave. It looks pretty good I think, for a first try. I will be working down the belly next. Just need to figure out roughly how thick the limbs need to be so I have an idea how much to take off. I have them roughly 1" at the fades, and tapering to 3/4" or a little more at the tips.
