I do the same. Most of my .22 work is shooting chickens in the head and I sight in at the range I expect to engage most of my birds. That’s usually about 15 yards. If I get a really close shot I know to hold high as the bullet is still below my line of sight.
If I’m shooting gophers I sight in about 50 yards and then memorize the trajectory for closer and further shots. That said it’s probably been 10 years since I’ve used a .22 on a gopher so these days I sight in for chickens.
