It's a darn good bet that the Moose rut will kick off in earnest during the last full moon phase in September. This moon phase usually coincides with the first killing frosts when ice forms on the smaller puddles of water... normally about the third week of the month. From this point the rut will ramp up and will peak about two weeks later. Seems it's been this way forever.
