I hear that too...…..newer two story...…….I have come to believe the sound is coming from my roof plumbing vent...……..ice forming on the top/inside and dropping down the pipe. Cold temps ice forms......warmer temps ice melts, breaks connection and falls down the pipe. Sound reasonable to a plumber
