Better ammo options, all kinds of guns out there at 1/2 that price, etc. $700 could get you a nicer 22mag than that Savage for sure, something like a CZ452....and have a little $ leftover.
Just this guy's opinion. 17WSM is the reason I bought a 17 Hornet. Not a rimfire of course, but I wanted a bigger 17 than HMR...but didn't want to get into the hot centerfires...and didn't think much of the initial reports on 17WSM ammo OR Savage rifle. 17 Hornet has been an awesome shooter, it's all I used on big groundhogs this summer..and they died immediately on impact. Longest shot was 197 yards.

I agree the .17 Hornet is AWESOME 200 yards for our little gophers is a DRT, At 250yds. about 90% (we are talking a 1.5? wide target).
I find 25 gr. Hornady bullets to be the most effective. less walking wounded. It works very well on coyote to 275yds. I am sure you could easy push the round to 300-350yds. and drop a yote. Wind drift is minimal, accuracy is great, whats not to like.
