We did ours last winter at Onaway F&G. The proficiency course/test is the first step, then some paper work and then an interview with the CFO. We had to test twice because we did the first test with a 9mm and a 22. The 9mm is considered to be too small for protection, you will need 357mag minimum. Just make sure you test with the right firearms and fill out the forms correctly and you should be ok. The CFO we dealt with was very helpful and very knowledgeable about calibers, ammo, ballistics, penetration, holster makers, etc.
