Benefits:
1) hearing protection
2) not disturbing your farming hosts (assuming you hunt in farm country)
3) animals often don't recognize where the shot come from
4) animals don't bolt as decidedly when shot as when they here the boom of an unsuppressed shot. Death run is often shorter.
Negatives:
1) cost
2) added weight and length
I used one on my PH's rifle in South Africa. Quite amazing the reduced sound signature. The above benefits were noted personally.
Benefits 1 and 2 should be enough that they be legalized for hunting.
