Hard to beat the 7 Rem Mag as an all round hunting cartridge. I would keep using that for your hunting gun. I have not found a 270 or 30-06 to kick enough less to make any difference. Stock design and gun weight are the biggest factors affecting felt recoil. To get a noticeable drop in recoil you would need to go to a 250-3000, 257 Roberts, 6.5x55, 243 etc.

If you want something lighter kicking to practice with and for fun shooting, I suggest a 223 with a 1:7 twist barrel. Factory ammo or hand loads are very inexpensive, barrel life is exceptional and you can easily practice out to 800 yards with very little cost.
