Don't get me wrong, spinning works fine for trout. Because of my location I don't do a ton of trout fishing anymore, as a result I don't keep a dedicated trout rod. I just use my walleye jigging setup and it works fine.
When I did lots of trout fishing I preferred fly gear to light spinning gear by a wide margin.
