The reason l decap as a separate step and to refresh my memory as to why l do it l turn to my reloading bible "Handloading for Competition" by Glen Zediker. He states that "some dies develop terminal conditions of destroying primer punches" as one reason and the second is that it keeps the primer residue out of the press. I enjoy reloading so this separate step may add a bit of time however it is not that big of a deal. Good luck
