Have a look at the picture of Sheephunters rifle,with a similar scope, it looks much more like yours.It appears that 209x50 holds his head very differently than you while he is shooting,and mounts his scope to suit that hold.As for the eye relief, at least with Zeiss,the eye relif doesn't vary greatly as you change the magnification.with Leupold, a variation of around 1" is common.
